Five Basic Terms in Tableau Explained

Worksheet – A worksheet is a space in which we create our visualizations.

Dashboard – A dashboard is a collection of views from multiple worksheets. The Dashboard and Layout panes are available in its sidebar.

Story – A story contains a sequence of worksheets or dashboards that work together to convey information. The Story and Layout panes are available in its sidebar.

Dimensions – Dimensions are usually those fields that cannot be aggregated. For example city, customer id etc. Dimension fields are usually used for row or column headings.

Measures – Measures, as its name suggests, are those fields that can be measured, aggregated, or used for mathematical operations. For example, you can find the cost of the products using sales and profits. Measures are usually used for plotting or giving values to the sizes of markers.
